What is ASSA-style skeet shooting?
The sport of skeet shooting originated with a group of Massachusetts sportsmen in 1920 that wanted a clay target game to improve their upland bird shooting skills. The original layout was in the form of a circle laid out as a clock face with a single target thrower positioned at 12 o'clock throwing targets toward the 6 o'clock position. By 1926, the skeet field had assumed standard dimensions of a semi-circle with two target throwers for competitions. The name skeet had also been adopted, apparently having been derived from the Scandinavian word for "shoot." The National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) is the world governing body for this sport, with its headquarters in San Antonio, Texas.

- To be the sole governing or delegating body for the sport in Alberta
- To ensure representation of provincial skeet shooting interests nationally and internationally
- To relate to the Canadian Shooting Federation, Canadian Skeet Shooting Association, National Skeet Shooting Association, Alberta Federation of Shooting Sports and other appropriate bodies as necessary.
